American Legion Post 83 General Meeting Minutes March 19, 2026

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm by Commander Will Vollmer

Officers Present: Commander Will Vollmer, Adjutant Harley G. Farley, Finance Officer Philip Highwood, Service Officer Vacant, Chaplain Ron Welch, Sgt at Arms Dave Parrish, E-Board at Large Luke McDonald, John Hampton,

General Membership, Guest: Monique Despain 2026 US House of Representatives Candidate

Absent: 2nd Vice Brittney Green, E-Board at Large Dan Buckwald, E-Board at Large Jim Riggs.

The meeting opened with the pledge of allegiance followed by prayer. There were no meeting minutes from the previous meeting to be reviewed.

Commanders Report: Moving 3/20/2026 to Tucson, will be here to finish current term.

Finance Report – Submitted the 990 for taxes and we have money in the bank. All is good.

Service Officer Report – None

Historians Report – None

Sick Call and Relief – None

SAL Report – None

Auxiliary Report – None

Riders Report – None

Membership: 242 members renewed for 2026 approx. 942%.

Old Business – Eagle Scout Straum reports that the Flag Drop off box is nearly complete. He will meet with Brian Ware to select the best location for it, so it doesn’t interfere with grounds maintenance.

New Business: New Eagle Scout project being considered is a woodshed being built to store dry wood for fire pit Fridays.

Door Locks are being looked at for the post, where they will be secured and you will need a FOB or Key Card to access for safety and security.

Philip introduced Food Truck Frenzy, getting food trucks to come to the post maybe one day a month for a meal event.

The need for 1st Aid classes and an AED in the lounge was discussed and will be considered when money becomes available.

Elections are currently being held for all entities, you are encouraged to get involved in your post and participate.

Bartender update: Still searching for a part time bartender, Philip, John Hampton and Harley are filling in on Mondays to give Jesse a needed day off until the position is filled.

Good of the Order – Monique DeSpain 2026 Candidate for US Representatives spoke briefly, she is a retired Air Force Colonial with 30 years’ experience and is running on the platform of Public Safety, Protected Borders and Veteran’s needs and wants your support.

All motions were seconded and passed unanimously.

The next meeting will be on April 16, 2026, 1830 hrs.

There being no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 7:05 pm following prayer.
